Liverpool’s midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has taken a sharp jibe at Real Madrid’s forward Arda Guler following Hungary’s 3-0 loss to Turkey.
Turkey decisively defeated Hungary with an aggregate score of 6-1, with goals coming from Hakan Calhanoglu, Guler, and Abdulkerim Bardakci.
During the second leg of the match, Guler audibly shushed Szoboszlai amidst a disagreement over a call. Szoboszlai responded with laughter, suggesting that Guler displayed a significant lack of respect.
Nemzeti Sport Online shared an image of this incident on Instagram, which prompted Szoboszlai to comment “1088.” This figure indicates the total number of minutes Guler has been on the pitch for Madrid this season, marking a tough message for the young player.
Guler’s playing time has been limited, with only 31 appearances this season under Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti, of which 21 were from the bench—an alarming statistic considering the team’s ongoing injury struggles.
In contrast, Szoboszlai has accumulated 2887 minutes at Liverpool, netting seven goals and providing six assists under manager Arne Slot, as he moves ever closer to clinching the Premier League title.
Inter Milan’s Calhanoglu weighed in on Guler’s circumstances, expressing that he warrants more game time at the Spanish club.
“I can’t say for certain what his situation is at Real Madrid, so I prefer not to delve too deeply into it,” he commented. “However, I do feel he deserves more minutes. Arda is a crucial player for us; he’s like a younger brother to me, and I care for him deeply. I would love for him to join us, but I can’t speak to the accuracy of that possibility.”
