Sky Blues manager Ufuk Talay has announced that star forward Patryk Klimala is fit to participate in the crucial showdown against Melbourne City this Saturday evening.
Klimala has scored 10 goals in the Isuzu UTE A-League this season, but has been sidelined for the recent matches against Newcastle Jets and Western United due to a cyst on his knee that has caused him discomfort while running.
After undergoing treatment involving several injections to alleviate the pain, the 26-year-old Polish international will join the squad for their pivotal match at AAMI Park in Victoria.
Sydney FC heads to Melbourne knowing that a draw is essential for their hopes of finals football, while Melbourne City are also keen to secure a home victory to clinch second place on the ladder, along with a spot in next season’s AFC Champions League Elite.
“Patrick is expected to be available,” Talay remarked during his pre-match media briefing on Friday morning.
“He trained fully with the team yesterday, so he will be travelling. There are a few players that need to pass late fitness assessments this morning before we make our final decisions ahead of our flight this afternoon.
“He’s had a couple of injections this week to ensure his availability, which is great news for us as he is a vital player for the squad.
“As mentioned, he will be on the trip to Melbourne, but a couple of players still need to meet certain conditions.”

Among those requiring a late fitness check before the encounter with Melbourne City is English star Joe Lolley.
After being substituted during the 1-0 defeat to Western United due to a groin issue, Talay acknowledges that Lolley’s fitness is uncertain.
“Joe has been dealing with some groin soreness from our recent match against Western United, which prompted us to bring him off earlier than we would have liked.
“We’ve been mindful of his condition throughout the week, and he’ll need to make it through a few assessments today to be available for Saturday.”
Corey Hollman is also under monitoring for his fitness, and Talay is hopeful that the 21-year-old can prove himself fit, particularly as Brazilian midfielder Leo Sena has been ruled out of the fixture.

Currently positioned seventh on the ladder with one game remaining, a draw against City will secure their place in the Finals Series, owing to their significantly superior goal difference over sixth-placed Adelaide United.
“We’ve always intended for our team to play to win. We’ve never set up to avoid losing,” Talay stated when discussing the importance of Saturday’s fixture.
“But players definitely know that a single point will see us qualify for finals football, and that’s at the forefront of our minds.
“We’ll aim for all three points, but our players must recognise the importance of managing the game effectively and pacing themselves throughout.
He added: “This season has seen many crucial matches for us, and this is a significant one with great implications. The players need to be aware of how the game unfolds and what it requires of them.
“If we find ourselves under pressure, we need to slow the game down. Conversely, if we’re dominating and applying pressure, we need to keep that momentum and create key opportunities throughout the match.
“The tactical approach we’ll implement is designed to achieve the outcome we desire.”
