Sydney FC find themselves in an excellent position to clinch a place in the ACL Two semi-finals, following a 2-0 victory over Jeonbuk in South Korea, courtesy of two goals from Patryk Klimala.
This result places Ufuk Talay’s team firmly in control of securing a spot in the competition’s final four, further extending their remarkable journey in Asian football.
“Overall, I felt that we performed well against a strong opponent, displaying good ball control and strong defensive qualities,” remarked Sky Blues coach Talay after the match.
“It’s never easy to compete against a side like Jeonbuk on their home turf, so to come away with a 2-0 victory is a fantastic result, and I’m genuinely pleased with the players’ performance.”
He further added, “With our training regimen and the talent within our squad, we won’t be taking anything for granted. We are well aware that Jeonbuk is a formidable team.”
“A two-goal advantage can be precarious, especially if you allow the opposition to score.”

The standout performance from the Sky Blues now sees them in a commanding position heading into the return fixture at Allianz Stadium on Thursday, March 13.
“My feelings haven’t changed at all,” stated Klimala during the post-match press conference after his two-goal outing.
“We executed our game plan effectively and performed admirably, delivering on everything we discussed prior to the match.”
“One crucial aspect was that after taking the lead, we didn’t ease off our efforts; we kept pressing, which was vital because it prevented Jeonbuk from finding their rhythm.”
In chilly conditions, with temperatures hovering around five degrees, Ufuk Talay’s squad managed to fend off any early threats from the hosts before dazzling fans with a stunning goal in the 36th minute.

Spotting Klimala’s run behind the Jeonbuk defence, midfielder Anthony Caceres delivered a perfectly timed pass to the striker, who made no mistake, blasting the ball into the roof of the net.
Recognising a gap in the back line, Klimala continued to challenge Jeonbuk’s defence relentlessly, compelling the goalkeeper to make two excellent saves just moments after giving Sydney FC the lead.
The visitors held their advantage at half-time, largely thanks to a brilliant save from goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares, who thwarted a close-range effort from Andrea Compagno that could have levelled the score.

The Italian striker soon threatened again early in the second half, his header clipping the top of the crossbar, before Sydney FC struck again at the other end.
Pouncing on a loose ball in midfield, Leo Sena found Klimala in a promising position, and the Polish forward expertly slotted his low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area, doubling Sydney FC’s lead to 2-0.
The two-time AFC Champions League winners had a penalty appeal dismissed in the 69th minute, as Sydney FC withstood some late pressure to return to Australia with a significant advantage ahead of the second leg next week.
