Sydney FC has officially announced the departures of two of their longest-serving players, with midfielder Max Burgess and forward Jaiden Kucharski set to leave the club.
The news of Burgess and Kucharski’s exits coincides with the announcement regarding Jaushua Sotirio, who leaves the club following the conclusion of his short-term contract.
The departures of Sotirio, Burgess, and Kucharski come in the wake of the already confirmed exits of renowned goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne and Polish striker Patryk Klimala, who was on loan.
A product of the Sky Blues’ academy, the creative midfielder Burgess leaves having made 97 appearances in the Isuzu UTE A-League, in addition to numerous matches in both the Australia Cup and Asian competitions.
During the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season, the 30-year-old struggled to secure regular playing time, only featuring three times in the league before departing as his contract concluded.
“It’s been a tremendous honour to represent my boyhood club and don the Sky Blue jersey,” Burgess commented.
“From my early days in the youth team to performing in front of our amazing Members and fans at Allianz Stadium, I’ve experienced so many wonderful moments and built memories that will last forever.
He added: “I want to express my gratitude to the club, my teammates, coaching staff, and especially the Members and fans for their unwavering support.
“I will always take pride in having worn this shirt, and I wish the club the very best in the future.”

Also seeking a new challenge away from Allianz Stadium is fellow academy graduate Kucharski, who departs the club following the end of his contract.
The 22-year-old featured in 24 matches during the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season, although most of those appearances came as a substitute, leading the versatile forward to seek more playing time elsewhere.
“Sydney FC has played a significant role in my life – as a fan, as a player progressing through the Academy, and as a professional,” Kucharski shared.
“I was a Member and part of The Cove growing up, so wearing the Sky Blue and scoring crucial goals for this club was a dream realised.
“I’ve forged lifelong friendships and created incredible memories, and I will always look back on my time here with great affection.
“I want to extend my gratitude to everyone at the club and all the brilliant fans, and I wish Sydney FC all the best for what lies ahead.”
