The Sweden Women’s national team will enter the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship riding a 12-match unbeaten streak, with Norway becoming the latest team unable to overcome their rivals, suffering a 2-0 defeat in Oslo.
In the lead-up to the match, a significant amount of discussion revolved around the absence of Fridolina Rolfo and the uncertainty surrounding her injury status.
However, the Blagult managed to adapt remarkably well without her. Just 17 minutes into the match, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd delivered a precise cross from the right, enabling Stina Blackstenius to expertly navigate around her defender and slot the ball into the top corner for her 39th international goal.
This was one of 11 attempts on goal made by Peter Gerhardsson’s squad in a dominant first half at Ullevaal Stadion, and just two minutes before the half-time whistle, they struck again.
Once more it was Kaneryd who played a crucial role, driving into the box from the right and passing to Filippa Angeldal. Angeldal, taking a shot from a difficult angle, benefited from a deflection that sent the ball flying over goalkeeper Cecilie Fiskerstrand and into the net.
Both teams made extensive rotations during the second half, disrupting the flow of play. Despite a few promising opportunities, Norway couldn’t find their way back into the contest, allowing Sweden to maintain their clean sheet.
This victory serves as excellent preparation for Sweden as they now journey to Switzerland for Euro 2025, where they will kick off their campaign against Denmark on 4th July.
