Jahrome Hughes battled through the second half of the Storm’s 30-24 victory against the Panthers on Thursday night with a fractured hand.
On Friday, the Storm issued a statement confirming that their star halfback requires surgery for the injury, but they expect him to be sidelined for only two matches.
The statement indicated that Hughes, who plays for the Kiwis, sustained the injury in the first half, likely during a heavy collision with Nathan Cleary in the 8th minute, yet he continued playing for the rest of the match.
“Scans have confirmed today that Jahrome Hughes has suffered a broken hand … the halfback sustained the injury during the first half but continued to play,” the statement read.

“He will undergo surgery on Saturday and is expected to be out for two matches.”
While Hughes managed to continue playing against the Panthers, Cleary was taken off the field after suffering a concussion. He is set to miss the Panthers’ upcoming clash in Round Four against the Rabbitohs.
It was a night filled with injuries at AAMI Park. Hughes is among several players dealing with injury concerns ahead of their match against the Dragons next Saturday.

Nick Meaney will be sidelined for at least a month after scans revealed a facial fracture resulting from a head clash with teammate Nelson Asofa-Solomona.
Asofa-Solomona also failed a post-match HIA and will enter the concussion protocols, with his availability for the Dragons game still uncertain.
On a more positive note, Grant Anderson has been cleared of any serious injuries following an incident in the 54th minute where he slipped and appeared to hurt his knee.
Meanwhile, the timeline for Will Warbrick’s return from concussion remains unclear.
