On Thursday, Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) upheld the appeal made by Barcelona players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, thereby permitting them to continue playing for the club until the season concludes.
Earlier on Wednesday, LaLiga had reduced Barcelona’s wage cap after declaring that the club’s recently amended financial reports did not align with the year-end figures from their former auditor.
The prior reports included revenue generated from the sale of VIP seating in the refurbished Camp Nou, enabling Barca to adhere to LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play regulations and to extend the registration of Olmo and Victor.
LaLiga contended that Barcelona lacked the capacity to register the two players based on their financials; however, the CSD overturned the agreement between Spain’s top football league and the country’s football federation (RFEF).
The CSD asserted that the registrations of the two players remain intact, as the RFEF conceded that “there is no federation resolution that sanctioned the cancellation of the licences,” deeming their decision to withhold a licence as “null and void.”
“In any event, the professional careers of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been safeguarded since January 8 by the urgent precautionary measure issued by the CSD, aimed solely at preventing irreparable harm until this process is concluded,” the CSD stated.
“In summary, due to incompetence, failure to adhere to the appropriate procedures outlined in the regulations, and lacking the authority to make decisions, the agreement of the Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement must be regarded as null and void, rendering all related effects invalid.”
In January, the CSD had provisionally allowed Barcelona to register the two players, just four days after Spanish football officials denied their requests.
