Inter Milan holds a slender one-goal advantage in their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich, following their victory in the first leg. However, coach Simone Inzaghi stressed the importance of putting that scoreline behind them as they prepare for the return clash.
Davide Frattesi delivered a dramatic 88th-minute goal last week, securing a 2-1 win over the stunned Bayern, and boosting Inter’s ambitions of securing a treble this season.
Currently, Inzaghi’s team sits three points ahead of second-placed Napoli in the Serie A table and has progressed to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.
When asked whether the pressures of competing on multiple fronts had impacted Inter’s squad ahead of their encounter with Bayern on Wednesday, Inzaghi responded to reporters: “Rather than tension, there is a tremendous sense of pride regarding how this season is unfolding.”
“Tomorrow’s match will be quite challenging; we must set aside the first leg’s result but remember the level of our performance because we truly excelled in Munich.”
“We recognise the immense quality of our opponents, and we need to deliver a superb performance with the correct mindset.”
Inzaghi also praised Bayern’s squad depth and the impact of coach Vincent Kompany, remarking: “Winning in Munich is no easy feat—you must really be on your game. While we are pleased with our victory, we understand it was not a final.”
“In just over 24 hours, we’ll face another test against what I believe, alongside Real Madrid, is the strongest team in the world. They are an exceptionally talented side, led by a coach whom I admired a great deal as a player.”
“He demonstrated great intelligence on the pitch, and he’s continuing to showcase that as a coach. We must aim to replicate our performance in Munich and play with technical prowess to maintain possession, which will be difficult due to their pressing game.”
The Italian manager also gave an injury update, stating: “Yesterday, we conducted a brief but intense training session, and both Federico Dimarco and Carlos Augusto were fit.”
“Davide Frattesi and Nicola Zalewski, who had experienced minor issues, are also in good shape.”
