Exciting boom recruit Sam Lalor has landed an endorsement deal with Australian underwear brand Bonds after experiencing a wardrobe mishap during his AFL debut last Thursday evening.
The highly anticipated No.1 draft pick from last year played a pivotal role in Richmond’s thrilling 13-point comeback victory over Carlton, achieving 18 disposals, two goals, and eight score involvements.
However, the 18-year-old showcased more than just his impressive skills in their season opener at the MCG.

During the celebration of his second goal, cameras captured the awkward moment when Lalor’s shorts failed to contain him, leading to a brief exposure.
Following the match, the young talent seemed to acknowledge the slip-up, referencing it in his Instagram post celebrating his debut.
“What a night. Cheers to Richmond for the opportunity—looking forward to many more ahead,” he wrote, adding an eggplant emoji for a touch of humour.
Teammate Tim Taranto cleverly tagged Bonds Australia’s Instagram in the post, drawing the brand’s attention.
In a light-hearted response, Bonds joined the fun, providing Lalor with some men’s trunks to ensure he is properly secured in the future.
In a social media clip showcasing Lalor’s original post, Bonds announced they would supply him with new underwear, also offering fans a little something special.
“You might have heard about Sammy’s fantastic round-one debut last Thursday and the not-so-great moment when his boys were a bit too exposed during his celebration,” a representative in Bonds’ video explained.
“Tim was kind enough to alert us, so we thought we’d reach out to Sammy and make sure he’s got the right coverage for his next game with some Bonds trunks.”
It remains unclear whether this partnership is just a one-off or if Lalor will take on a brand ambassador role like his predecessor in the Tigers midfield, Dustin Martin.
The Richmond great was the face of various Bonds men’s collections during the final stages of his career.
Bonds also took the opportunity to market the ‘Sammy Lalor edit’, featuring a range of men’s underwear “that will keep your essentials secure, supported, and comfortable this footy season,” with an enticing 22 per cent discount to match Lalor’s jersey number.
“Ensure you don’t get caught out, on or off the field, with your eggplant showing,” the video concluded on a cheeky note.
Lalor’s standout performance against the Blues earned him a nomination for the AFL Rising Star Award for round one.
