Scientists discovered minor earthquakes triggered by Liverpool fans at Anfield during their recent Premier League triumph against Tottenham last Sunday.
The seismic activity was monitored by researchers from the University of Liverpool throughout the 5-1 victory that clinched the Premier League title for the Reds.
The findings indicated that the 60,415 supporters in attendance at the stadium generated six seismic incidents with magnitudes varying from 0.7 to 1.75 on the Richter scale.
The most notable tremor was produced by Alexis Mac Allister’s goal in the 24th minute, which brought Liverpool to a 2-1 lead. This goal registered at 1.74 on the Richter scale.
The second-largest tremor, measuring 1.60, occurred following Mohamed Salah’s goal, scored in front of the legendary Kop stand during the second half.

Farnaz Kamranzad, one of the scientists involved in the analysis, stated on Liverpool FC’s website that this study “is a fantastic illustration of how geoscience can encapsulate the energy of human emotion in both powerful and unexpected ways”.
She also noted: “Although these were minor tremors, they were not sufficiently intense to be felt within the stands, yet they were strong enough to significantly imprint on the grounds of Anfield. Each celebration leaves a trace beneath us—a seismic fingerprint of shared joy, etched into the Earth’s memory long after the final whistle.”
