Researchers have identified minor seismic activity triggered by Liverpool supporters at Anfield during their impressive triumph against Tottenham in the Premier League last Sunday.
The geological disturbances were recorded by scientists from the University of Liverpool amid the 5-1 victory that clinched the Premier League title for the Reds.
The findings indicated that the 60,415 fans in attendance produced six seismic occurrences with magnitudes between 0.7 and 1.75 on the Richter scale.
The most notable tremor was spurred by Alexis Mac Allister’s goal in the 24th minute, which put Liverpool ahead at 2-1. The midfielder’s strike caused a recorded shake of 1.74 on the Richter scale.
The second most powerful tremor, measuring at 1.60, followed Mohamed Salah’s goal, celebrated in front of the iconic Kop stand during the second half.

Farnaz Kamranzad, one of the researchers behind the project, stated on Liverpool FC’s website that this study “serves as a fantastic reminder of how geoscience can capture human emotions in both powerful and unexpected ways”.
She further added, “These were minor tremors, insufficient to be noticed in the stands, yet potent enough to leave a distinct and lasting imprint at Anfield. Every celebration leaves an imprint beneath our feet, a seismic fingerprint of collective joy, etched into the Earth’s memory long after the final whistle.”
