Sam Darcy is anticipated to face an extended period on the sidelines following a severe knee injury sustained during the Western Bulldogs’ clash with the Saints.
The 21-year-old was vying for a mark late in the first quarter when his knee hyperextended upon landing on the turf at Marvel Stadium.
Immediately, he grasped his leg and remained down on the ground before eventually getting to his feet and hobbling towards the boundary line.
“Oh no, Darcy is injured,” remarked Fox Footy commentator Gerard Whateley.
“We all hold our breath.”

“He’s clearly in a lot of pain,” added football legend Garry Lyon.
“It’s a hyperextension from the landing. Just the way he reacted… of course, we’re not medical professionals.”
The team’s medical staff assisted the young talent to the change rooms, where he received further evaluation.
Darcy is set to undergo scans in the upcoming days to assess the severity of the injury, with initial thoughts indicating it could potentially be a season-ending setback.
The key forward was subbed out of the game shortly after reaching the dressing rooms, with Cooper Hynes coming on as his replacement.

“This is a generational talent. I’m just hoping for the best for that young man,” Lyon expressed.
“It’s now in the hands of the injury gods.”
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge will be anxiously awaiting news on the young star’s condition, as Darcy has been a vital player for the team in the opening five rounds of the season.
Darcy, son of club legend Luke, had an impressive breakout season last year, kicking 38 goals, and has already added another 14 goals to his tally this season.
He is contracted with the Bulldogs until the conclusion of the 2029 season.
