Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has dismissed speculation regarding his potential exit from the club this off-season, labelling the reports as ‘fake news’ as he approaches the final year of his contract.
The Brazilian shot-stopper has been the first choice at City since his arrival from Benfica for a fee of €40 million in 2017.
At 31, Ederson has secured six Premier League titles and the Champions League with City, in addition to winning the Premier League Golden Glove thrice for registering the most clean sheets.
Although he was recently linked with a switch to the Saudi Pro League and mentioned an “unusual proposal” he received in October, he stated during the Club World Cup that his focus remains firmly on City.
“No, my future is here,” Ederson affirmed to reporters.
“A lot of friends send me various news articles, but 99% is just fake. I understand that you (media) need content to share on social media or create headlines.
“I get it, but there’s a lot of misleading information connected to my name. My commitment is with City; that’s where my head is at.”
“The club offers me everything I need to return to the Premier League and aim to win the Champions League as well. My focus is here.”

City manager Pep Guardiola remarked that he was unaware of the situation regarding Ederson’s contract. Should the club choose not to extend his contract, the goalkeeper will become a free agent next year.
Guardiola added: “What I can say is that I’m extremely happy with what I’m witnessing in training, and I’m thrilled Eddie is still part of our team.
“We cannot encapsulate what we have accomplished in this incredible, spectacular decade without him. His impact has been immense in numerous areas, and I’m truly grateful for his contribution.”
