Roar Announces Retention of Defensive Pair as Their Incredible Journey Unfolds

Brisbane Roar have confirmed the re-signings of defensive stalwarts Antonee Burke-Gilroy and Austin Ludwik as Michael Valkanis begins to shape his squad for the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season.

The duo have agreed to one-year contract extensions, ensuring their roles in this exciting new chapter for the club.

Burke-Gilroy has made 46 appearances for the Roar across two spells, having featured 25 times last season.

“I’m thrilled to re-sign and I’m committed to setting high standards this season,” said Burke-Gilroy.

“My aim is to lead by example, foster team success, and ensure we progress both individually and as a unit.

“I’m delighted to continue my journey with the Roar family!”

The story of Ludwik, the reigning two-time NPL Queensland Player of the Year, was nothing short of remarkable last season, as he made his Isuzu UTE A-League debut just before turning 28 after transferring from Gold Coast Knights.

He aims to build on his six appearances at the end of last season as he commits to the Roar’s future.

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign an extension at the Roar and I’m profoundly grateful to the club and staff for this opportunity,” Ludwik expressed.

“I can’t wait to rejoin the team and the new coaching staff. We’re all keen to put in the hard graft for a bigger and better year ahead.”

Head Coach Michael Valkanis remarked: “The extensions for both players are fantastic news for the club.

“Antonee and Austin will continue to bolster our defensive lineup and will work diligently as we approach the new season.

“I’m eager to see their contributions as we pursue success in the 25/26 season.”

The Roar are steadily constructing a refreshed squad for the forthcoming campaign, with Milorad Stajic and James McGarry already on board, while centre-back Hosine Bility has secured a permanent deal following a successful loan period last season.
