Emma Main has secured her future with the Wellington Phoenix, extending her contract for an additional two years, lasting until the conclusion of the Ninja A-League 2026-27 season.
Over the last two seasons, Main has emerged as a pivotal figure for the Nix, making 22 appearances in the past season alone.
“Re-signing was definitely an easy choice for me,” Main expressed after finalising her new contract.
“Wellington is my home, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to play in front of my friends and family.”
“I also really value the faith the club has shown in me over the last two years, and the confidence to secure me for another two seasons is something I cherish.”
She continued, “This is a fantastic opportunity for me. In the past two seasons, I’ve learned a great deal about managing pressure and maintaining consistency, whether I’m coming off the bench or starting.”
“I feel well-prepared, and I’m looking forward to the next two years where I hope to excel, score plenty of goals, and become an essential part of the team.”

The 25-year-old forward netted three goals last season, placing her joint-second in overall goals for the club since they entered the Ninja A-League four years ago.
“Last season, I certainly didn’t score as many goals as I would have hoped, and I’m eager to improve on that to become one of the primary goal scorers for the Nix,” Main stated.
“Additionally, I want to create more opportunities, whether that involves taking more shots or providing the decisive pass for a goal-scoring chance.”
“I aim to enhance my consistency to help the team achieve victory in crucial matches.”
Following a year without finals football, the Nix are undergoing a squad overhaul, with head coach Paul Temple and captain Annalie Longo among those departing.

In a transfer window filled with intrigue, the Nix have acquired dynamic winger Lucia Leon from Adelaide United, Dutch international Tessel Middag from Rangers, as well as American defender Ellie Walker and Football Ferns goalkeeper Victoria Esson for the 2025-26 season.
“It’s an exhilarating time for the women’s squad. Several signings still await announcement, which I know will thrill fans, and those confirmed already are quite exciting.”
“They will inject fresh energy into the squad, bringing valuable experience. With the integration of our upcoming young talent, we’re aiming for a strong balance that will help us compete for silverware.”
Currently serving as the club’s interim head coach until a permanent replacement for Temple is appointed, Amy Shepherd regards Main’s re-signing as a significant victory for the club.
“Emma is a local player with tremendous potential,” Shepherd declared.
“Her ability to energise the team and consistently threaten opponents makes her an exciting prospect for our future. We saw glimpses of her talent last season, and we’re confident she’ll continue to be a central player, offering energy and creativity to our squad.”
