Spanish powerhouses Real Madrid are allegedly negotiating a deal for AZ Alkmaar’s promising young talent, Kees Smit, who has made waves at the UEFA U19 Championship.
As reported by Spanish daily Diario AS, Real Madrid has been tracking Smit for some time but have now taken a significant step by officially approaching the club for the 19-year-old sensation.
Kees Smit, who has been part of the AZ academy since he was nine, made his senior debut with the Alkmaar side in 2024. He first caught the spotlight during a UEFA Europa League match against Fenerbahce, where he contributed a goal and an assist, helping AZ secure a 3-1 victory in what was only the second match of his career.
This summer, Smit played a pivotal role in leading the Netherlands to their first European title at the U19 Euros held in Romania, finishing as the tournament’s joint top scorer and earning the Player of the Tournament accolade.
Notably, Dutch heavyweights Ajax and PSV are also said to be interested in Smit, whose transfer fee is estimated to be “at least” €25 million, according to reports in the Netherlands. AS has now deemed Smit a “serious option” for Real Madrid, who will face competition from FC Barcelona for his signature.
Smit is contracted with AZ until 2028.
