It’s well known that the Sydney Roosters have seen a significant departure of talent as they head into this season.
However, one bright spot amid the notable departures is the emergence of rookie centre Robert Toia.
The 20-year-old has long been regarded as one of the club’s top prospects, despite encountering severe injuries in his early playing days.
Toia transitioned to the Roosters as a teenager and has already donned the Queensland jersey for the U19s State of Origin before stepping up to compete in the NSW Cup.
With both Joseph Manu and Joseph Suaalii leaving the club and Billy Smith facing ongoing fitness challenges, Toia seems poised to make his debut.

In a recent interview with 9News Sydney, teammate Connor Watson expressed his confidence in the young player, believing he will adapt well to the rigours of first-grade football.
“The sky’s the limit for him,” Watson stated.
“He has boundless potential and I truly think that the more first-grade matches he plays, the more he’ll refine his game.”
Toia made a notable impact last season, scoring four tries in just six appearances for the reserve team, while also breaking 42 tackles and averaging 151 metres per game.
The promising newcomer isn’t the only fresh face in the Roosters’ lineup; fellow talents like De La Salle Va’a, Blake Steep, and Tyler Moriarty are also vying for positions.

Club icon Anthony Minichiello is optimistic about the influx of youthful talent into the squad, expressing hope that the Roosters can make a significant impact in the tournament.
“They’re set to discover many young talents, which is a positive development,” he shared with SEN Radio.
“Bringing fresh blood into the team is crucial, and several academy kids will likely get their chance this year if they can steer clear of injuries. It’s quite an exciting prospect for the Roosters, to be honest.
“For some of these youngsters, seizing their opportunity could kickstart their careers. It’s an electrifying time for Robbo [Trent Robinson], as he’s often talking about how thrilling this year is for the club.
“I don’t think there’s a pressure to fill big shoes. Rob Toia has been an exhilarating player for quite some time. He has faced a few injuries that held him back, but he would have probably started last year if things had gone differently.
“I’m really eager to see him play, and if he can secure a spot for round one and beyond, I believe he will consistently shine in first grade this year without a doubt.”

“To secure a premiership, a balanced combination of youth and experience is vital, and this year will be centred around nurturing promising youngsters, no doubt.”
While the Roosters are always expected to challenge for the title, the legendary fullback is moderating his expectations for the 2025 season.
“I envision the Roosters in the top eight, but I’m uncertain about the top four at this point,” Minichiello candidly shared.
“This will be a year dedicated to bringing a lot of young talent on board while remaining very competitive in matches.”
The Roosters’ first challenge will see them face off against the Broncos on March 6.
