Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig has confirmed the acquisition of Dutch youth international Ezechiel Banzuzi from Belgian club OH Leuven this summer.
Multiple sources indicate that Leipzig has agreed to a transfer fee of €15 million for the 20-year-old midfielder, who has signed a deal running until the summer of 2030 in East Germany.
“We are thrilled that Ezechiel has opted to join RB Leipzig,” stated Marcel Schafer, Leipzig’s technical director, on the club’s website. “He is an archetypal box-to-box midfielder—tall, quick, and both physically and technically adept.”
During his two seasons with Leuven, Banzuzi featured in 71 matches, netting 6 goals and contributing 5 assists. “I am very pleased that my future is in Leipzig,” Banzuzi remarked. “This club is renowned for being an excellent environment for young players to develop at the highest level. They made it clear that they were very keen on me and have concrete plans for my future here.”
“The Bundesliga is a particularly competitive league. I’m the kind of player who gives their all on the pitch. I will always put in 100%, and I aim to win over the fans as quickly as possible.”
“I will maintain my full focus on Leuven and our objectives before I transition to Leipzig this summer. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to advance my career after two fantastic years.”
Banzuzi transferred from Eredivisie club NAC Breda to OH Leuven in 2023 for a fee of €1.5 million. ‘The Pearl of the South’ and Leuven established a 15% sell-on clause for Banzuzi, meaning that NAC will receive an additional €2.25 million following his move to the Bundesliga.
