RB Leipzig have confirmed the appointment of Ole Werner as their new head coach, signing him on a contract that runs until 2027, as announced by the Bundesliga club on Tuesday.
This decision brings to a close Leipzig’s extensive search for a permanent manager following the departure of Marco Rose in March. Interim coach Zsolt Low managed the team for the remainder of the season, which culminated in a disappointing seventh-place finish in the league.
At 37, Werner recently opted not to renew his contract with fellow Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen and will now lead a Leipzig squad that will focus solely on domestic competitions next season after missing out on European qualification for the first time since 2016.
“Ole is a youthful, ambitious, and incredibly driven head coach who is ready to take his next step in development with us,” stated Leipzig’s managing director, Marcel Schafer, in an official release.
“RB Leipzig is synonymous with a daring, offensive style of play and a distinct identity, coupled with a professional and ambitious mindset,” remarked Werner.
“The club harbours significant aspirations and high expectations, and this is precisely the type of environment that attracted me and one that I am eager to contribute to.”
