Marko Saloranta, head coach of the Finland Women’s football team, has unveiled the 23-player squad set to compete in Switzerland for the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship.
A significant highlight is the return of Jutta Rantala from Leicester City, who is rejoining the Boreal Owls after a year hampered by injuries.
“We’ve had full-time training this week, all contact drills went smoothly, and the results look promising. I am absolutely thrilled for Jutta and the team,” Saloranta stated upon announcing the squad.
Defender Natalia Kuikka has also been cleared to play following a period on the sidelines, but unfortunately, Elli Pikkujamsa has not made the cut for the squad.
Linda Sallstrom, the team’s top scorer and all-time record cap holder, will be aiming to increase her tally of 62 international goals, nearly 16 years since she netted against England in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2009.
Finland will kick off their tournament on 2nd July against Iceland in Thun, followed by a match against Norway in Sion on 6th July, and they will finish their Group A fixtures against hosts Switzerland in Geneva on 10th July.
The head coach remains optimistic about the team’s prospects for advancing in the tournament.
“Iceland is a good match-up for us; we had a solid performance against them nearly two years ago, and they have retained much of the same squad. Norway poses a different challenge and is arguably the top contender in the group. I believe we can achieve at least two victories,” he added.
Participating in UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 will mark Finland’s fifth appearance in the European Championships, and they have yet to surpass their Semi-final finish during their debut in 2005.
