In a remarkable gesture, PSV is fully compensating their travelling supporters for their UEFA Champions League match in London against Arsenal, following last week’s monumental defeat.
PSV suffered a staggering 7-1 loss to Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. This crushing defeat not only marked the heaviest loss in PSV’s history but also set a record for any Dutch club in the Champions League.
Despite the significant setback, many PSV fans remain undeterred and are making their way to Wednesday’s away fixture in North London. The club’s board recognised this commitment and decided it warranted a reward. A spokesperson for PSV confirmed to the newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad that the club will cover the cost of all tickets for travelling fans, meaning they will only have to cover their travel expenses.
Approximately 3,000 PSV supporters are expected to attend the match at Emirates Stadium, resulting in a total gesture cost of around €200,000.
After a disappointing start to 2025, where PSV fell from leading the league to trailing behind Ajax by eight points, as well as being eliminated from the KNVB Cup by Go Ahead Eagles, the club’s board wished to show their appreciation to the fans following last week’s heavy loss.
