Paris Saint-Germain showcased a remarkable first half to clinch an unprecedented 16th Coupe de France title, triumphing over Stade de Reims 3-0 at the Stade de France, and securing their third trophy of the season.
It was Matvey Safonov who registered the initial save of the match, denying Amadou Koné’s long-range attempt.
From that point onwards, PSG began to assert their dominance, with Ousmane Dembele’s effort being well-defended before Desire Doue narrowly missed the target.
A few minutes later, Doue crafted a brilliant pass to set up Bradley Barcola, who made no error in locating the bottom corner with precision.
Only three minutes passed before the duo combined once more, with Barcola tapping in Doue’s cross to double PSG’s advantage.
Reims found themselves in a tough situation, with Yehvann Diouf making a vital save to keep them in the contest, tipping Dembele’s shot away before Achraf Hakimi’s attempt sailed over the bar.
Both Doue and Dembele couldn’t find the target with their subsequent efforts, but Hakimi ensured the match was effectively sealed before the break, volleying in PSG’s third goal from Barcola’s cross at the back post.
Having contributed to all three goals in the first half, Barcola sought a hat-trick after the interval and came close just before the hour mark, only for Diouf to push his near-post effort away.
Dembele then rattled the woodwork twice in quick succession, first having his shot saved onto the post by Diouf, before a clever chip hit the crossbar, though he was flagged offside.
PSG didn’t manage to extend their lead, but they will be pleased with their 12th consecutive win in this competition as they lift the trophy, providing them with ideal momentum heading into the UEFA Champions League (UCL) next week.
Reims, on the other hand, will need to regroup ahead of their second leg in the relegation playoff against Metz on Thursday, with the tie finely poised at 1-1 following the first leg.
