West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen has conveyed his regret following a recent encounter with Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell and the subsequent public outcry.
The out-of-contract skipper is contemplating his future, with both the Hawks and Lions showing interest in securing his services.
During the club’s training session on Thursday, Allen acknowledged the situation as embarrassing.
“Firstly, I want to extend my heartfelt apologies and acknowledge the significant embarrassment stemming from the events of the past few days,” Allen remarked.
“It’s evident that the public nature and timing of these developments are not in my best interests or those of the football club.”
“I feel a deep sense of remorse, particularly towards our fans, players, and staff. I can imagine how you might be feeling, and for that, I’m truly sorry.”
“I’ll be continuing my role as co-captain alongside Liam Duggan this season. After discussions with others at the club, we all agree that this is the best course of action.”
“I remain confident that I’m the right person to lead this group forward alongside Duggan, aiming for success this year.”

When directly asked if he wished to continue as a West Coast player beyond 2025, Allen responded affirmatively.
“Absolutely, I do,” he confirmed.
“I won’t delve into specifics, but I truly value this club and am eager to continue playing this season.”
The 26-year-old admitted to struggling with his form after a slow start to the season.
“It’s fair to say I’m currently out of form, much like several others in the team,” he acknowledged.
“My primary aim is to lead by example, and I haven’t been achieving that, so moving forward, that’s where my focus will be.”
The Eagles are set to face a significant challenge as they travel to Engie Stadium for their round four clash against GWS, hoping to secure their first victory of the season.
