Milutin Osmajic, the Montenegro forward from Preston North End, has been charged by the FA following an alleged racist comment directed at Burnley’s Tunisia midfielder, Hannibal Mejbri, last month.
Mejbri reported the incident to the referee after Osmajic purportedly made the racist remark during the goalless Championship (second tier) clash between the two teams at Deepdale on February 15.
Preston North End has stated that Osmajic firmly refutes the allegation.
“It is claimed that the forward behaved improperly and/or used abusive and/or insulting language towards an opposing player…” the FA mentioned in a statement issued regarding the charge.
Furthermore, the FA indicated that the accusations amounted to an “aggravated breach” due to a reference to colour or race.
The club has acknowledged the charges but noted they will refrain from further comments until the matter is resolved.
“Milutin continues to categorically deny the allegations concerning the use of abusive language referencing colour and/or race, and he will provide an official response to The FA charges in due course,” the club said in their statement.
The 25-year-old Osmajic has until March 25 to submit his response.
