West Coast finds itself grappling with a pre-season injury crisis as one prominent player faces a lengthy stint on the sidelines.
Dom Sheed, a seasoned midfielder who played a pivotal role in securing the premiership for the Eagles in 2018, has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee during a training session on Monday.
At 29 years of age, he will be sidelined for the entire 2025 AFL season.

“Regrettably, Dom sustained an ACL injury in an innocuous incident during training on Monday,” said football manager Gavin Bell.
“This news is extremely disappointing for Dom, especially given his unfortunate history with injuries in recent seasons. Our players, staff, and the entire club will stand by him as he embarks on his recovery journey.”

“We will consult with Dom and medical professionals to determine the next steps in his recovery, and we will provide further updates when appropriate.”
He joins a growing list of players dealing with injuries at West Coast.
Rising star Harley Reid experienced some discomfort following a training session on Friday and has been diagnosed with “ankle soreness”.
“Given the intense pre-season preparations thus far, the 19-year-old will follow a tailored programme this week,” the club stated.
“We aim to manage him carefully this week, treating it as a de-load week, and we anticipate he will return to training next week.”
In addition, Jake Waterman (back), Elliott Yeo (ankle), and recent signing Liam Baker (ankle) are also sidelined but are expected to return in the coming weeks.
West Coast has struggled in recent seasons, finishing no higher than 16th on the ladder.
