Genoa clinched a crucial 2-0 win over Venezia at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, extending the Winged Lions’ winless streak to a frustrating eight matches (D3, L5).
Venezia entered this clash desperate for a win in their fight against relegation. Nevertheless, it was Genoa who looked more likely to score early on, coming close to taking the lead within 10 minutes. A corner kick saw Andrea Pinamonti leap to head towards goal, but Ionuț Radu showcased his outstanding reflexes, tipping the ball over the crossbar.
After that early threat, both teams struggled to carve out clear-cut chances, with Venezia looking the more dangerous side as the half progressed. Just before the half-hour mark, Gaetano Oristanio had a chance but his left-footed shot was too weak, allowing Nicola Leali to gather the ball easily.
Prior to the half-time whistle, Genoa nearly broke the deadlock again, this time through Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, whose long-range strike was brilliantly saved by Leali, keeping the game scoreless.

The second half kicked off in much the same way as the first, with Patrick Vieira’s men looking to take an early lead.
Despite their best efforts, the Griffins found it difficult to get past Radu. The Romanian goalkeeper made another remarkable save just before the hour mark, this time denying Pinamonti, who unleashed a powerful volley from close range that was expertly punched away.
Finally, Genoa managed to break the stalemate in the dying minutes of the match as Pinamonti found his mark, curling a delightful shot into the top right corner following a precise pass from Caleb Ekuban.
But the hosts weren’t finished there; they sealed their win with a second goal just four minutes from time. Maxwel Cornet got on the scoresheet, expertly finishing after collecting another brilliant ball from Ekuban, calmly slotting it into the left side of the net.
With this victory, Vieira’s side climbed to 11th place in the Serie A standings. In contrast, Venezia’s struggle for survival continues, with Eusebio Di Francesco’s team now five points adrift of safety.
