Wellington Phoenix’s captain Annalie Longo has announced that Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Western United marked her last match in professional football.
The Phoenix skipper left the field to a standing ovation in the 79th minute and shared an emotional farewell with head coach Paul Temple, who was also coaching his final game for the club.
When asked post-match if she would be leaving the Phoenix, Longo confirmed that the encounter at Porirua Park was her final appearance for the club and in her professional career.

“I didn’t want today’s game to revolve around me,” Longo told club media following the match.
“I’m quite emotional. Getting subbed off just as the girls scored a goal—it’s clear they don’t need me!
“From the very beginning, I aimed to give my all in the Phoenix jersey, and I believe I’ve accomplished that.
“You can never predict the future, but this is definitely my last match in professional football.
She went on to say, “My love for the game is immense, and while it’s tough to step away from something you’re passionate about, I feel this is the right moment.
“I’ve given everything I had and enjoyed my time fully, so I can walk away with pride.”
Although the Phoenix missed the opportunity for finals football this season, the 33-year-old Longo has excelled individually throughout the campaign.
