Phil Gould argues that it is “far too early” for the Wests Tigers to be contemplating a major contract for Lachlan Galvin, especially with the club’s ambitious plans for the young talent emerging.
Nine’s Danny Weidler has reported that the Wests Tigers are thinking about putting forward a five-year deal for Galvin, potentially worth around $1 million a season, in a bid to secure his future with the club.
Currently, Galvin is under contract with the Tigers until the end of 2027 and is expected to attract significant interest should he enter the open market on November 1.
“The Tigers won’t be dragging their feet,” Weidler commented on Nine’s 100% Footy.
“They are gearing up for a solid attempt to sign him, and I believe they will act sooner rather than later.
“They’re prepared to go straight to six figures for Lachlan Galvin. While they might not confirm these reports just yet, that’s the word I’m getting.”

The 19-year-old’s stellar debut season has garnered him the admiration of football commentators as he dazzles alongside Jarome Luai at the Tigers.
With the rugby league world witnessing significant multi-million dollar contracts being offered to seasoned players, Gould is concerned that Galvin’s immense skill is drawing such attention prematurely in his career.
“It’s fantastic money, but it puts an enormous amount of pressure and scrutiny on him,” Gould remarked.
“At such a young age, he probably shouldn’t be earning this much; there’s no need to put that kind of burden on a young lad. Neither the club nor his manager will allow it to happen.”
“They shouldn’t hamper his development in the system. It brings too much scrutiny.
“With money comes responsibilities, obligations, and expectations—do we really want to place that on such a young athlete?
“Speak to all the great playmakers; none of them wanted that kind of pressure at that age.”

The Canterbury general manager stated it would be a “tragedy” for Galvin to lose his spot at the Tigers and urged the club to do whatever it takes to keep him.
“It’s far too premature to be discussing Lachlan Galvin,” he added.
“He must remain with the Tigers. The Tigers need to devise a plan to keep him in the fold.
“I sincerely hope he stays at the Wests Tigers; losing that opportunity would be a tragedy for him.”
There are several teams with the salary cap flexibility that could potentially attract Galvin if he decides to leave the Tigers, but the Roosters will not be one of them.
As per Weidler, the Tri-colours have ruled out making a play for Galvin if he becomes available, as the club “refuses” to engage with the teenager’s manager, Isaac Moses.
The Tigers are reportedly aware of the Roosters’ position regarding Galvin.
