Abel Ferreira, the coach of Palmeiras, is optimistic that teenage prodigy Estevao Willian can bid farewell to the Brazilian fans in style by delivering “one incredible performance” as they take on his future club, Chelsea, in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup on Friday.
The 18-year-old winger is set to leave Palmeiras at the conclusion of the tournament in the United States, having secured a lucrative transfer deal with Chelsea over a year ago.
Officials at the Sao Paulo club believe that facing Chelsea will provide Estevao with an added incentive to shine at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
“I don’t discuss the transfer with him, but he knows what is required of him tomorrow, and I hope he puts in an outstanding performance for the Chelsea owners,” Ferreira shared with the media.
“They regard him as a player with immense potential given his skill set. This will be an opportunity for him to showcase his talents, so all I ask is that he gives his all—attacking, defending, and perhaps scoring a goal to say farewell to our supporters.”
Ferreira further remarked: “We’ve aided his development both as a person and as a professional, so this could be a fantastic chance for him to wrap up his time with us in spectacular fashion—perhaps even with a goal.”

Palmeiras, who were defeated by Chelsea in the 2022 Club World Cup final, are keen to deliver a strong performance for South American football against European rivals in this tournament.
Chelsea has already faced defeat to Brazilian opposition in Philadelphia, falling to Flamengo during the group stage. Palmeiras could enjoy greater local support inside the stadium this time around.
Ferreira anticipates that the crowd will rally behind his team, coinciding with the United States’ Independence Day celebration.
“Yes, we are the underdogs, but this could be an opportune moment as tomorrow marks Independence Day against the English,” Ferreira stated with a smile.
“We are up against a formidable team packed with talent, including many young players, but we have our dreams, and we’re ready to chase them with determination and give everything we have tomorrow.”
