Focus is now on the Wallabies squad announcement set for next week in preparation for the British and Irish Lions series, following Australia’s exit from the Super Rugby Pacific title race on Saturday night.
The ACT Brumbies put up a spirited effort but ultimately fell short against the Chiefs, losing 37-17 in the semi-final held in Hamilton. This result paves the way for an all-New Zealand grand final between the Chiefs and the Crusaders in Christchurch next weekend.
With this defeat, the Brumbies have now been eliminated in the semi-finals for four consecutive years, marking a notable statistic as no Australian team has secured the championship since the NSW Waratahs triumphed under Michael Cheika in 2014.

“It’s another heartbreak at the penultimate stage, but the Chiefs executed their game plan effectively and we couldn’t keep up, so credit to them,” stated Brumbies fullback Tom Wright in an interview with Stan Sport.
The Brumbies aimed to become the first Australian side to secure a playoff victory on New Zealand soil.
Unfortunately, it was not meant to be, and the Kiwis maintain an impressive 21-0 record against Australian teams.
“We didn’t need to discuss making history; our motivation was already intrinsic,” Wright explained.
“The external pressure was hard to ignore, but we didn’t let that dominate our conversations as a team.”
“Knowledge of that pressure didn’t impact our focus. If a player lacks motivation in such a crucial game, they might not be suited for rugby at this level, right?”

It was an emotional farewell for Brumbies players Noah Lolesio and Tom Hooper, who will be heading to Japan and England respectively next season.
Lolesio, the Wallabies playmaker, was comforted by Stan Sport’s Sonny Bill Williams on the sidelines after failing a Head Injury Assessment early in the match.
“Our focus this week was to deliver near perfection to secure a win,” said Brumbies captain Allan Alaalatoa on Stan Sport.
“In the second half, our precision faltered and consequently, so did our discipline… leading to their capitalisation on our mistakes.”
Both teams managed to score three tries each, with wingers Emoni Narawa and Corey Toole each netting impressive doubles.
However, man of the match Damian McKenzie’s six penalties, along with a crucial try-saving tackle on Wright, ultimately swung the match in favour of the Chiefs.
In spite of the continued disappointments, All Blacks legend Jeff Wilson believes Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham should remain calm.
“Progression is key,” he expressed to Stan Sport.
“I admire how they’ve played this season. They’ve broadened their game strategy and have formidable threats on the flanks, as seen tonight with their tries. They were incredibly unlucky.
“A brilliant defensive play stopped a try that could have given them a glimmer of hope when Damian McKenzie sprinted back to halt Tom Wright.”
“Considering their season, I appreciate their squad and structure. James Slipper’s re-signed, which is great because he’s revitalised his game.
“I’m not sure what they’ve given him to achieve that in Canberra, but there’s a reason they’re in the top four: their consistency. Many of the younger players have already committed to return.
“I feel confident about their potential. They will be a tough opponent next year, particularly at home, much like the established teams.”
“I have immense respect for the organisation, for what Stephen Larkham has instilled, and I believe the core of that team will contribute significantly to the Wallabies.”
Schmidt is anticipated to announce his Test squad late next week ahead of the match against Fiji in Newcastle on July 6.

NSW Waratahs’ five-eighth Tane Edmed is tipped to take Lolesio’s place at the Brumbies next season.
The Chiefs are now set to face a Crusaders squad that has maintained an unbroken record of 31 consecutive home finals victories.
“We hold no fear about heading down to Christchurch to take on the Crusaders,” Chiefs coach Clayton McMillan shared.
“We’ve had our share of success down there before.”
“We know the challenge ahead is formidable. They possess an exceptional record and are an outstanding team.”
“Their true composure stood out last night, particularly as the Blues attempted to claw their way back into the match. We are well aware we need to perform at our highest level.”
