Jason Horne-Francis believes that spending time in the United States during the off-season will equip him to secure more midfield time this upcoming season.
PORT Adelaide’s Jason Horne-Francis is convinced that a recent trip to the United States will assist him in transforming from a good player to a great one.
Horne-Francis, along with several teammates from the Power, ventured to the US to collaborate with injury prevention specialists, resulting in modifications to his training regimen for the upcoming season.
“The journey to America has facilitated adjustments to my gym routine and prehab exercises before training, ensuring my body is in peak condition,” the 21-year-old remarked to journalists on Monday.
“I’ve been relatively fortunate with my physical condition while with the Power. But I recognise the importance of taking diligent care of my body.”
“I truly believe that the trip aided in that, as I gained insights into my body, particularly regarding soft tissue and its intricacies.”
“It has been beneficial for me, and I’m eager to keep on learning.”
Horne-Francis indicated that the insights gained during the trip should enable him to increase his midfield presence.
“Taking care of my body this season will undoubtedly boost my fitness and ensure I remain consistent throughout our matches.”
“My focus is to eliminate those patches of inconsistency. If I can maintain a steady stream of good performances and convert them into standout games, that will be invaluable.”
“Whether it’s refining my running patterns or enhancing my fitness, I believe I’ve absorbed a lot over the past couple of years that will position me well to log more minutes in the midfield.”
Horne-Francis participated in 24 out of 26 games last season, where the Power faced a disappointing end in the preliminary final against Sydney.
“I reckon we fielded the youngest team in the finals, so our experiences were all about gaining exposure to the rigours of finals football, something many of us younger players were lacking,” he shared.
“It’s a challenging competition; only one team emerges victorious, making internal success all the more difficult.”
“We need to move on rapidly and extract valuable lessons from our experience.”
“(However) it serves as motivation. Watching the teams on the final day ignites a desire to be there ourselves and achieve victory, which fuels the passion each year.”
