Hawthorn’s lively forward Jack Ginnivan has teased a unique goal celebration planned for his side’s eagerly awaited clash against Port Adelaide this coming Sunday evening.
Set to be the feature match that wraps up Gather Round, this encounter marks the first meeting between the two teams since the heated exchange involving Ginnivan, Hawks captain James Sicily, and Power coach Ken Hinkley following Port’s semi-final victory.
The post-match fracas last September saw Hinkley mockingly taunt Ginnivan after the match, a situation that prompted Sicilia’s intervention on behalf of his teammate.

The tension was ignited after Ginnivan commented on a post by former Collingwood teammate Brodie Grundy following Sydney’s qualifying final victory.
Now with the Swans, Grundy shared a series of selfies with his teammates, to which Ginnivan replied with, “See you in 14 days”.
If they had advanced past Port Adelaide in the semi-final, the Hawks would have faced Grundy’s Swans in a preliminary final at the SCG.
Hinkley and several Port players have suggested that Ginnivan’s remarks were perceived as disrespectful, serving as motivation motivation for the Power.
Following the match, Hinkley allegedly made a plane gesture and shouted at Ginnivan, “You won’t be flying to Sydney, Jack,” implying that the Power would be the ones embarking on a trip to Sydney to face the Swans, while the Hawks headed home.
Hinkley was later fined $20,000 for his behaviour during the incident.
Despite the lingering tension between the two sides, Ginnivan claimed there’s no additional emotion surrounding this rematch.
“It’s quite clear the AFL scheduled this as the last game [of Gather Round], and I’m sure they’ll leverage it to promote the game. However, for us, it’s just another match,” he told Nine’s Gather Round in the Barossa program on Tuesday night.
“We’re keen to face whoever comes our way and aim to keep our season on track.”
Nevertheless, reports suggest that Ginnivan may have a goal celebration or post-game salute planned up his sleeve.
When asked if an aeroplane celebration could be in the works, Ginnivan dismissed the idea but acknowledged he was ready if he found himself scoring a goal.
“Oh, we’ll just have to wait and see if I kick one, but I’m sure I have something ready in the back pocket,” he remarked.
The Power and Hawks will bring Gather Round to a close at 7:20 pm AEST on Sunday.
