The Canberra Raiders have apparently offered Jamal Fogarty a new contract in a bid to secure his services over the Sea Eagles.
Fogarty is currently faced with a major decision, as Manly has presented him with a significantly more lucrative offer.
Initially, his current contract featured a round six clause, which allowed the Raiders to trigger a new deal reportedly valued at about $650,000.
Fogarty shared on SEN that he originally had until round 20 to finalise his decision.
“If they were to decline it by round six, I’ve got until round 20 later in the year to consider my options. For instance, if I don’t find anything appealing, I can return to the club and say, ‘Hey, I want to stay for less, or we can renegotiate.’ Both parties had agreed to this a year ago,” he explained.
The Sea Eagles’ interest has prompted the Raiders to act, with The Sydney Morning Herald reporting that he has been offered a two-year contract worth up to $1 million.
Manly’s contract proposal is two years and includes an additional $200,000.
Canberra’s coach, Ricky Stuart, has consistently expressed his intention to retain Fogarty but has also indicated the club’s commitment to nurturing its younger players. Ethan Sanders, who joined the Raiders from the Eels this season, is poised to potentially step into Fogarty’s role in the future.
