Spencer Leniu, the Roosters prop, has reportedly found himself embroiled in yet another sideline clash, this time with a journalist following the team’s Anzac Day victory.
Just a fortnight ago, Leniu was involved in a heated verbal exchange with league legend Johnathan Thurston, and on Friday, he allegedly had words with reporter Brent Read.
While details surrounding the incident remain murky, reports suggest that Leniu directed some inappropriate language at Read.
During an interview with 2GB’s Continuous Call Team on Saturday afternoon, head coach Trent Robinson was questioned about the altercation and admitted he was unaware of it.
“Honestly, this is the first I’ve heard of it,” Robinson stated.
“I can’t really comment on that, as I didn’t have knowledge of it. I need to gather more details.”

When asked if a discussion with Leniu was necessary, Robinson affirmed his commitment to “support the player” whenever possible.
“There’s a lot of opinions swirling at the moment – our game tends to stir interest,” noted the three-time premiership-winning coach.
“This leads to differing viewpoints. When there’s public scrutiny on either side, why should Spencer handle it privately? It’s quite the conundrum; I don’t think anyone has definitively resolved that debate.
“While we certainly don’t want ongoing conflict, it’s also true that conflict attracts media attention. I will always be here to support the player, as well as the integrity of the game.”
