League legend Willie Mason has made a heartfelt appeal to the ousted Titans star David Fifita as he endeavours to secure his future with the club.

The sensational back-rower, who was relegated to reserve grade prior to Magic Round, is reportedly on a contract worth around $1 million per season on the Gold Coast, lasting until the end of next year.

However, he has begun the season in inconsistent form and now finds himself sidelined as coach Des Hasler sends a clear message to the former State of Origin powerhouse.

During an appearance on the Levels Network this week, Mason offered a stark warning to both Fifita and Hasler about the importance of discovering a “happy medium” upon his return to the top tier.

“What on earth are you doing, David Fifita? Seriously, you’re one of the most compelling forwards in the game,” the Bulldogs premiership winner stated.

“This situation could go either way with Des – he could have one game in reserve grade, absolutely smash it, and come back as an improved player, or he might decide, ‘Nah, I won’t learn anything from this,’ and return to first grade doing what he pleases.

“There has to be a balance with this kid. You possess immense talent, Fifita, and if you fail to tap into it, it’ll be the biggest regret of your career.”

“Des really needs to grasp what motivates this kid. While I may not fully understand it, I know that when he’s on form, he is one of the most formidable, dominant, and aggressive back-rowers to have ever graced the field.

“It’s disheartening to see a talent like him relegated to reserve grade. What is happening? You should be one of the first selections for Origin… yet here you are in reserve grade.

“It feels like there’s a complete lack of care – you need to prioritise rugby league.”

Fifita mentioned to News Corp over the weekend that the “truth” regarding his exclusion would soon come to light.
