For Daniel and Jacob Saifiti, Thursday evening will be a unique experience as they prepare to face off against one another for the very first time.
The siblings were no longer teammates after Daniel joined the Dolphins at the conclusion of the 2024 season, while Jacob has continued his journey with the Knights.
Newcastle coach Adam O’Brien is aware of the impending clash between the two front-rowers, but he anticipates that any sibling rivalry will be resolved quickly once they hit the pitch.
“They’re both mature players, so I think they’ll handle it well,” he remarked.
“Jacob has mentioned he’s tackled him countless times in training, but we’d be kidding ourselves to think it’s just another game. This is about two twins going up against each other.”
“Once they engage early in the match, I doubt either will dwell on it for long.”
“They’ll focus on the game, although their mum, Bev, might have a different reaction!”
“I care for both of them, and I know they’ll each want to put in a stellar performance.”
Previous notable twin matchups include Brett and Josh Morris clashing over a decade ago, and the Walters brothers, Kevin and Kerrod, who faced each other in the 1990s.
