Although it didn’t ultimately alter the outcome of the match, Jack Bostock has expressed his desire to swiftly forget a peculiar mistake that allowed Moses Leota to score a try.
In a convincing 30-12 win over the Panthers on Thursday night—fuelled by a hat-trick from Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow—one unexpected moment could have had serious consequences.
As the reigning champions sought to launch a late charge, Bostock attempted to kick the ball into the dead-ball zone but instead mishit it directly into Leota’s path, enabling him to score.
While this blunder didn’t affect the final score, Bostock’s father, Josh, who had travelled from NSW to watch the game, didn’t hold back and offered some advice to his son on the incident.

“It was all good until that final moment,” he shared with Nine’s Danika Mason.
“I’ll need to take him aside and teach him how to kick the ball dead properly.
“Otherwise, he played well.”

Bostock further attempted to clarify the incident and mentioned the reactions of his teammates following the error.
“They’ve said I get first dibs on the drinks when we head out for a beer tomorrow night… they’re thrilled about that,” the 21-year-old remarked.
“As you’ve all probably seen, I chose to kick the ball back into play rather than safely down the dead ball line which allowed them to score.
“It wasn’t my proudest moment and I’ll be keen to move on from it quickly.
“I thought I would easily poke it dead, but it hit the inside of my foot. I was trying to maintain a positive attitude, but sometimes it’s just too funny not to chuckle.”
“I don’t need to discuss it with him; he’s well aware,” Kristian Woolf noted when asked about the error after the match.
“It was the very first thing he mentioned to me when he came off the field, and it’s certainly a learning experience for him.
“Jack has played less than 50 games, and it’s through their mistakes that they learn best.”
The Dolphins, having notched a significant victory over the four-time reigning champions, will be delighted as they continue to find their rhythm under Woolf’s guidance.
“This was a crucial match for us,” Bostock acknowledged.
“We had a rocky start to the season, but good things take time, and we showcased how the Dolphins intend to play footy.”
