Richmond have confirmed that Noah Balta will take the field in the AFL’s upcoming match against Gold Coast, just three days before he faces sentencing in court for pleading guilty to an assault charge dating back to December 30.
In the meantime, Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin is making bold moves following the Demons’ winless start to the season, dropping 2021 premiership player Bayley Fritsch and emerging forward Jacob van Rooyen for their Saturday night encounter against Fremantle at the MCG.
Carlton’s coach Michael Voss has also made a statement, leaving veteran defender Sam Docherty out of the lineup for the Blues’ Good Friday showdown with North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.
Young player Elijah Hollands took personal leave just before the season commenced but has returned to the club and is now primed to make his debut on Friday afternoon.
Tigers coach Adem Yze spoke to the media on Wednesday, confirming that Balta, who played in Richmond’s VFL side last Sunday, is set for AFL selection this week.
The defender is slated to compete against Gold Coast at Marvel Stadium this Saturday night.

Balta is scheduled to appear at Albury Local Court for sentencing on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old has admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment.
The Demons currently sit at 0-5 and are eager for a victory against the Dockers.
Fritsch and van Rooyen have been left out after netting only three and four goals respectively in Melbourne’s opening five matches.
