Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has received an extended two-match suspension following his red card in the English club’s 3-1 defeat against Flamengo at the Club World Cup.
Jackson had been on the field for merely four minutes in the second half when he was dismissed for a dangerous studs-up tackle on Ayrton Lucas, marking his second red card in just four games across all competitions.
The 24-year-old faced an automatic one-match ban, which ruled him out of Tuesday’s crucial final group-stage encounter against Esperance Sportive de Tunis. Nevertheless, FIFA’s disciplinary committee assessed the incident and classified it as serious foul play, leading to an extended suspension.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned Chelsea’s player Nicolas Jackson, who was sent off with a direct red card during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match against CR Flamengo…” FIFA stated, as reported by ESPN on Tuesday.
“A two-match suspension has been imposed for breaching article 14, paragraph 1 e) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This decision is final and binding and cannot be contested.”
Following the match, Jackson took to social media to express his apologies for his actions. He will miss Chelsea’s potential Round of 16 fixture should they progress.
