Fans of Internacional Limeira aimed jibes at Neymar (33), spurring him on to score his first-ever ‘Olimpico’ goal during Santos’ emphatic 3-0 victory in the Paulista Championship on Sunday.
Neymar found the net directly from a corner in the 27th minute, executing a bending shot with his right foot that hit the far post before nestling in the back of the net.
In addition to his spectacular goal, he also set up Tiquinho Soares for two first-half goals.
“They were mocking me, and I thought to myself, it’s time for me to score,” Neymar shared with TNT Sports.
The crowd continued their mockery in the ninth minute while Neymar prepared to take a corner, prompting him to gesture for them to cheer louder before assisting Soares in finding the net.
“My greatest satisfaction comes from playing the game I love,” Neymar expressed on social media.
Recently returned to his boyhood club after departing Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal last month, Neymar remarked that Santos has been instrumental in helping him “rediscover football, rediscover joy”.
Santos is set to face Bragantino in the quarter-finals of the Paulista Championship next weekend.
