Neymar’s injury troubles persisted on Wednesday as the Santos forward exited the pitch in tears due to a left thigh issue during the first half of their 2-0 victory over Atletico Mineiro in Brazil’s Serie A.
At 33, he is still recovering from a significant knee injury sustained in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023, which has hampered his return to peak fitness. However, his recent performances at Santos earned him a call-up to the Brazilian national team in March.
Sadly, he had to withdraw from that international squad because of a muscle injury, and further disappointment followed when he was forced to leave the game in the 34th minute, holding his left thigh.
“It’s still too early to provide any definitive answers; we don’t have a diagnosis yet,” Santos coach Cesar Sampaio informed the media.
“It’s a significant setback in a match where everything we had planned was going as expected.
“Now, we have to hope that it’s not something that will keep him sidelined for an extended period.”
