The Netherlands has unveiled their complete 23-player squad for the upcoming Women’s Euros in Switzerland this summer.
Manager Andries Jonker has opted to leave out wingman Shanice van de Sanden and left-back Merel van Dongen, along with Jill Baijings and the fourth-choice goalkeeper Regina van Eijk, from the final squad.
Van de Sanden, a key figure in the Dutch team’s triumph at the European Championships in 2017, has not been included despite rejoining the national team for the first time since February 2024. The 32-year-old Pachuca winger will miss out on the chance to earn her 100th cap for the Netherlands in Switzerland.
Merel van Dongen, who has 63 international caps and plays left-back for the Mexican club Monterrey, was also part of the Netherlands squad that finished as runners-up at the 2019 World Cup. The seasoned defender has made way for Chelsea’s Veerle Buurman, who was named Women’s Eredivisie Talent of the Year after an impressive loan spell at PSV last season.
Beerensteyn
Lineth Beerensteyn, currently managing a persistent undisclosed injury, has made it into the final squad. The top scorer of last season’s Women’s Bundesliga has reassured Dutch fans that her condition is improving. “I’m still in rehabilitation, and things are progressing well,” she stated in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad.
This year’s Euros will mark the first major tournament for the Netherlands since the 2009 European Championships without the presence of Lieke Martens, who retired from the national team in May 2024 after amassing 160 caps and competing in three European Championships and three World Cups.
The Netherlands will compete in Group D alongside Wales, England, and France. The 2025 Women’s Euros are scheduled to take place from July 2 to 27.
