Manchester United has secured an all-English UEFA Europa League (UEL) final against Tottenham Hotspur, following an impressive 4-1 victory over Athletic Club. This win propelled the Red Devils to a commanding 7-1 aggregate advance, maintaining their unbeaten streak in European competitions this season.
Facing a daunting three-goal deficit from a disastrous first-leg defeat in Bilbao, the Lions understood the importance of a strong start at Old Trafford. Initially, Ernesto Valverde’s side appeared more dangerous, narrowly missing a chance to open the scoring when Alex Berenguer sent a curling shot over the bar from 12 yards.
This warning seemed to ignite United, who struggled to impose themselves early in the opening half-hour but eventually found themselves behind when Mikel Jauregizar unleashed a brilliant long-range effort that nestled into the top corner.
Buoyed by this stunning goal, the visitors aimed to extend their lead before the break.
However, it was Ruben Amorim’s team that came closest to finding the net again, as Patrick Dorgu set up Alejandro Garnacho, only for the Argentine’s delicate lob to miss the far post by inches.
The early minutes of the second half mirrored the first, with Athletic dominating proceedings. Clear chances, however, were few and far between for the Lions, with Unai Nunez sending an angled header well off target.
Determined to keep their unbeaten European record intact, the United coaching staff made three substitutions as the final 20 minutes approached.
A quick equaliser was soon on the cards, as substitute Mason Mount displayed quick feet in the box, curling a precise shot past the outstretched hand of Julen Agirrezabala, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

This effectively sealed the match as a contest, and United took the lead just eight minutes later when Casemiro headed home from Bruno Fernandes’ well-delivered free-kick.
With the visitors’ spirits visibly crushed, United added further goals late in the game to enhance the scoreline.
Rasmus Hojlund finished from an Amad Diallo cutback, and Mount then capitalised on a blunder from Agirrezabala, slotting a stunning long-range shot into an empty net. This result earned United a spot in their ninth European final, providing them a chance to salvage a largely forgettable season with silverware and a berth in the Champions League.
