Jelle Duin, the Dutch striker for Vejle, is likely to miss the remainder of the season, according to coach Steffen Kielstrup in an interview with TV2 Sport.
Duin signed a 2.5-year deal with the struggling Danish Superliga side in January, but his time on the pitch has been limited. It may be some time before fans see the former AGF striker return to action.
“He is currently injured and won’t be available for the upcoming fixtures this summer,” Kielstrup stated following Tuesday’s training session.
Many Danish football enthusiasts will remember Jelle Duin for scoring two goals in the final round of the 2022-2023 season, helping AGF secure bronze medals.
The 26-year-old has participated in several of Vejle’s pre-season matches but made his debut as a substitute against Silkeborg. Beyond that, he has only featured for 15 minutes during an away game against Viborg.
Duin’s injury is particularly unfortunate for Vejle, who sit at the bottom of the Danish Superliga and urgently require attacking options. Their leading scorer, German Onugkha, has netted eight goals in eight matches but has been unable to score in the past two games.
Vejle find themselves six points adrift of both Sonderjyske and AaB at the foot of the league table. Their next challenge is a home match against Viborg on Thursday.
