Brighton & Hove Albion’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, has addressed the media in anticipation of this weekend’s showdown against Leicester City.
The two teams had previously ended in a 2-2 stalemate at the King Power Stadium back in December. However, given that Leicester has secured just one victory in their last 10 matches, it seems like a straightforward win for Hurzeler’s squad.
Before diving into tactics, the German coach delivered some concerning news regarding Kaoru Mitoma.
“There aren’t many changes to report. Kaoru (Mitoma) is a doubt; he will attempt to train today, but the rest of the squad remains the same.”
Next, he discussed potential replacements for the suspended Jan Paul van Hecke, who received a red card during extra time in the match against Crystal Palace.
“We have a few options. (Eiran) Cashin will definitely be in the mix. Mats (Wieffer) has played in that position before, and Carlos Baleba is also an option. We’ll assess how everyone performs in today’s training (Friday) before making a final decision.”
Hurzeler reflected on the earlier fixture and highlighted that Saturday’s match represents a fresh opportunity to demonstrate how much the team has developed.
“We reviewed the previous game and realised our game management wasn’t at its peak during that phase of the season. We dropped several points when we had the lead in matches.”
“As the season progresses, I believe we are becoming increasingly mature, better at managing our games. We’ve undergone a transformation to enhance our game management.”
“I see the past encounter as just that: the past. Tomorrow’s match is a new game, an opportunity, and a challenge where I truly believe my team is on a different level now—more mature and playing more professionally.”
Lastly, the Brighton manager shared his fond memories of watching Leicester’s boss, Ruud van Nistelrooy, during his own upbringing.
“He was an incredible goalscorer. At the time I was growing up, he wasn’t yet a coach. He achieved some remarkable feats as a player and played for my biggest rivals in Germany, Hamburg, during my tenure at St. Pauli.”
“I have some great memories of him as a player; he had a phenomenal career, and I hope he achieves the same success as a coach.”
