Melbourne’s round one supremacy shows no signs of abating, as last year’s runners-up left former assistant coach Jason Ryles with little to cheer about in his debut with the Eels.
The Storm dominated Parramatta during the opening half, leading 46-6 at the interval, before ultimately sealing a 56-18 victory.
“They were incredibly impressive in the first half; they possess everything … they’ve certainly sent a message to the rest of the competition,” stated Billy Slater on Nine.
Melbourne surged to a remarkable 40-0 advantage within the first 36 minutes at AAMI Park, and it wasn’t until then that the Eels managed to score any points.

Jake Tago was the first to cross the line for Parramatta, but Melbourne quickly responded with another try from Ryan Papenhuyzen before halftime.
Papenhuyzen finished with two tries in the first half, while teammates Josh King, Xavier Coates, Eli Katoa, Harry Grant, and Nick Meaney all contributed to the tally.
“We might not have enough points on the board here to keep up … (Parramatta) have been totally overwhelmed. I saw them come up for the last restart like they were in a daze,” noted Phil Gould after Grant’s try.

In the second half, Melbourne struck first once more as Will Warbrick made a dash down the field with an intercept, with Jahrome Hughes also getting in on the action.
However, the home side faltered towards the end as Will Penisini and Isaiah Iongi managed to score consolation tries.
This victory marks Melbourne’s 23rd consecutive opening round win, further extending coach Craig Bellamy’s remarkable record.
Next week, the Storm will enjoy a bye while Parramatta takes on the Wests Tigers on Sunday.
