Matthew Lloyd suggests that West Coast might need to reassess their commitment to number one draft pick Harley Reid during the upcoming off-season, particularly if there are doubts about his long-term dedication to the club.
Reid is tied to the Eagles until the conclusion of the 2026 season, but his value on the market could soar to over $2 million per season should he opt to return to a Victorian team.
Lloyd believes the Eagles could be faced with a difficult decision: trading Reid for a substantial return.

“I sincerely hope he remains with West Coast for the next decade. Some might try to misconstrue my comments as wanting him in the red and black, but that’s not the case. I want him to thrive at West Coast,” Lloyd expressed during Nine’s Footy Classified.
“Regarding his performance, if there’s any suggestion that he isn’t fully committed or might leave at the end of his contract next year, given West Coast’s current performance at 0-8, it’s essential to prioritise the club’s interests. Wouldn’t it make sense to trade him for multiple players?”

Lloyd isn’t convinced that Reid has performed at his best for the Eagles this season.
“I reckon he returned (this pre-season) lacking fitness,” Lloyd remarked.
“At this juncture, you’re not building your club around a player who exhibits the ultimate professionalism.”
“It’s a challenging situation for him, being a second-year player in a struggling team, but he’s currently averaging just 16 disposals per match.”
The Eagles will have a prime opportunity to end their winless streak when they take on Richmond at the MCG in Round 9.
