Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez has been ruled out of the World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil due to a hamstring injury, as confirmed by the Argentine Football Association on Wednesday.
The Inter Milan forward did not feature in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 victory over Feyenoord last week owing to muscle discomfort.
Despite making a comeback to find the net in Inter’s 2-0 Serie A triumph over Atalanta on Sunday, he has since been forced to withdraw from Lionel Scaloni’s squad following the diagnosis of a left hamstring injury.
Martinez’s absence adds to Argentina’s growing list of unavailable players, which includes captain Lionel Messi, who is out with a muscle strain, alongside Gonzalo Montiel, Giovani Lo Celso, and Paulo Dybala.
Argentina currently tops the CONMEBOL qualifying table with 25 points from 12 matches.
The reigning World Cup and Copa América champions face second-placed Uruguay on Friday, before welcoming fifth-placed Brazil just four days later.
