On Wednesday, Chelsea’s coach Enzo Maresca expressed confidence in his team’s evolving style of play, championing his players following a weekend marred by jeers from the crowd.
During the clash with Ipswich Town on Sunday, Chelsea found themselves trailing 2-0 at home, facing frustration from fans at Stamford Bridge for their inability to adapt when their game plan faltered against a team battling relegation.
Despite dropping to sixth position in the league, Maresca maintained his ‘100%’ conviction in his methods, emphasizing the team’s progress as they aim for a place in the Europa Conference League semi-finals ahead of their match against Legia Warsaw on Thursday.
“I can’t speak to what happened last year or the one before, as I wasn’t here and it’s hard to make judgments,” said Maresca, referencing the team’s past struggles ahead of the second leg, where Chelsea holds a 3-0 advantage.
“I genuinely believe we can reach the European semi-final. While it’s not the Champions League, it’s still a European competition.”
“We’ve been in the top four for most of the season, which is a stark contrast to the previous two seasons when the team didn’t make it even once. The positive trajectory we’re on and our style of play are evidently showing promise.”

Maresca acknowledged that he might not always hear the crowd’s discontent, but he reiterated the importance of their support for the team’s ambitions. He believes Chelsea is on the brink of significant progress next season.
“Football belongs to the fans as they are the essence of the game. When they back the team, it matters greatly as players can feel that support,” Maresca commented.
“We must strive to connect with them by playing the right way, generating opportunities, and scoring goals. When we find the net, the atmosphere shifts positively for all involved.
“Overall, the support at home has been remarkable. While some fans may have expressed dissatisfaction during certain games, including the last one, it’s our job to rediscover that connection.”
