Manly chief executive Tony Mestrov has vehemently dismissed any suggestions of rifts between the club, Daly Cherry-Evans, and coach Anthony Seibold following the news that the skipper intends to depart the Sea Eagles at the end of the season.
The startling announcement made by Cherry-Evans on Monday night sparked intense speculation regarding his rapport with coach Seibold. However, before any inquiries could be posed about their dynamic during a press conference on Tuesday morning, Mestrov sought to quell any misunderstandings.
“I want to make it perfectly clear that there is no animosity between Daly and the club,” Mestrov stated.
“Daly has informed several teammates that this will be his final year, and it is now up to him to clarify any points on the matter. The decision is in his hands concerning the proposal.”
Mestrov also highlighted that the club had a longstanding offer for Cherry-Evans to take on a coaching role once he retires, expressing that they still hold hope for a change of heart from the 332-game veteran. This comes in light of the club’s public two-year contract offer to secure the Queensland captain’s services, which was made shortly after news of his potential exit surfaced.
